1,000 Feet Ahead

from Blooztown by Hitman Blues Band

/

about

This tune was a lot of fun to record, It was the only one where I had to ask Bernard Purdie to play a different drum beat than the one he used. He gave me a sort of "you're telling ME what to play?!?" look, and then nailed it right away. Every time I hear the drums, I have to smile, because it sounds so happy.

lyrics

A thousand feet ahead, that's where my baby stays
A thousand feet ahead, that's where my baby stays
I broke her heart, I’ve gotta win her back some day

You know I’m never lonely,
You know I never cry,
You know I only miss her
On days that end with why
A thousand feet ahead, that's where my baby stays
I broke her heart, I’ve gotta win her back some day

You know she used to love me
But I would treat her mean
She's got a brand new man
Who treats her like a queen
A thousand feet ahead, that's where my baby stays
I broke her heart, I’ve gotta win her back some day

You know I had my fun
I used to play around
But since she left me flat
Everything's been staying down
A thousand feet ahead, that's where my baby stays
I broke her heart, I’ve gotta win her back some day
